How AI is Revolutionising the Events Industry: Insights from Richard Lowe




Returning from IMEX in Las Vegas, the largest global exhibition for the events industry, I’ve taken the opportunity to reflect on AI’s transformative impact within experiential marketing. Engaging with industry leaders from around the world highlighted AI’s exceptional potential to enhance efficiency, creativity, and audience engagement—especially in experiential fields where sensory and emotional connections are paramount. At VWV Group, we’ve been embracing this shift, integrating AI’s capabilities with the creative vision and expertise that define our work. This is more than just technology; it’s about using AI thoughtfully to enrich brand experiences with greater precision and depth.


AI’s role in the creative process is both powerful and nuanced. At VWV, we employ AI-driven insights to inform strategy and concept development while keeping our teams’ creativity at the core. From optimising registration processes to managing itineraries and predicting audience needs through analytics, AI enables us to maintain a seamless backend operation that responds to changing dynamics in real time. AI essentially serves as a diligent, guided intern, providing vast data and insights that we direct with purpose. Tailored tools like Spark AI, designed specifically for the experiential industry, consolidate content generation, brainstorming, and data analysis—empowering us to deliver faster, smarter, and more targeted solutions.


Metrics, too, are transformed by AI. Traditional measurements, like attendance figures and post-event surveys, offer only part of the picture. Now, tools such as facial recognition and sentiment analysis provide real-time insights into audience reactions, allowing us to adjust experiences as they unfold. At VWV, our proprietary ROE (Return on Experience) calculator combines predictive emotional response scores with live data, providing a holistic view of an event’s success. This real-time adaptability allows us to meet and exceed audience expectations, offering clients a comprehensive understanding of their brand’s emotional resonance.


However, as AI’s role expands, so does the responsibility to approach it ethically. Privacy and transparency are central to our approach at VWV. We are committed to data protection and anonymisation, ensuring AI enhances the experience without compromising trust. Embracing AI responsibly means looking to the future with a commitment to upholding audience integrity while pushing engagement boundaries.


Reflecting on discussions at IMEX, I am energised by the unique opportunities AI offers for Africa’s experiential marketing landscape. Operating in an emerging market has its advantages; innovations tested abroad often arrive here refined and ready for local adaptation. It’s clear that we are not only adopting these tools but also leading in adapting them to our markets. In some respects, we are setting the pace globally, showcasing how AI can strengthen brand connections by making them more immediate, personal, and impactful.
